Biography

Edoardo De Angelis is a director, screenwriter and producer born in Naples in 1978. Before discovering the cinema, he was an overweight ballet dancer, a rap singer, a talentless actor and painter, a poet cursed only by himself and a water polo player. Then, at the age of 19, he discovered cinema and made his first short films in the abandoned quarries and countryside of Caserta. 

After graduating from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, he made his debut with Mozzarella Stories (2011), followed by Perez. (2014) The film that made him famous was Indivisibili (2016), the story of two Siamese twins who, thanks to their gift of bel canto, feed their whole family. Presented at the Venice Film Festival's Giornate degli autori, it won the Pasinetti Prize for "best film" and a special mention for the newcomer twins Angela Fontana and Marianna Fontana, as well as 6 David di Donatello, 6 Nastri d'argento, 1 Globo d'oro, 8 Ciak d'oro and 50 other awards around the world. 

This was followed by Il vizio della Speranza (2018) in which he worked alongside his wife Pina Turco, which won him, among others, the Audience Award at the Rome Film Festival, "best director" and "best actress" at the Tokyo International Festival, a David di Donatello, 3 Nastri d'Argento and 3 Ciak d'Oro. The same title has been used for the book published by Mondadori. In 2020 he signed an acclaimed direction of Tosca for the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. He directed the Rai film Natale in Casa Cupiello based on Eduardo De Filippo's masterpiece, with Sergio Castellitto. 

He is currently developing, together with writer Sandro Veronesi, the film Comandante, inspired by the true story of Salvatore Todaro, an Italian submariner who saved his enemies. He is also writing the screenplay based on Eduardo De Filippo's text Non Ti Pago and the adaptation of Giorgio Scerbanenco's novels.
