Biography

Lunetta Savino is an italian actress. She attended the DAMS (Drama, Art and Music Studies) in Bologna, right after graduating from the School of Theater, directed by Alessandra Galante Garrone. She made her stage debut in 1981 with Macbeth, directed by Egisto Marcucci.

Over the following years, she has been featured in several theater plays, from the classics of the Neapolitan theater (Non è vero ma ci credo, Come finì Don Ferdinando Ruoppolo e Un brutto difetto) to the plays of the new Neapolitan school (Medea, 24 femmena d’onore). In 1995, she played a part in the very famous monologue Prova orale per membri esterni, directed by Claudio Grimaldi.

Her screen debut took place in 1982, in the movie Grog, by Francesco Laudadio. In 1998, she starred in the movie Matrimoni by Cristina Comencini, who called her back the following year for a part in the movie Liberate i pesci. Her great TV success dates back to 1998 with the TV series Un medico in famiglia produced by Rai, in which Lunetta played the part of Cettina Gargiulo. Since then, she played several and diverse parts on TV, including the character Elena Ferrucci in the fiction Raccontami in 2006, Lucia – brave mother of the renowned nuclear physicist Fulvio Frisone – in Il figlio della luna, and Vincenzina in the movie Pietro Mennea – La Freccia del Sud, for which she was awarded the Flaiano Prize in 2015 for Best Actress. She also boasts important contributions to the film industry. These include two movies by Ferzan Ozpetek: Saturno Contro in 2006 and Mine Vaganti in 2009, for which she received the Nastro d’Argento prize.

Following, she played a part in Bar Sport by Massimo Martelli, Fiabeschi torna a casa by Max Mazzotta, Tutto tutto, niente niente by Giulio Manfredonia, Io Arlecchino by Giorgio Pasotti and Scusate se esisto by Riccardo Milani. In 2015, she went back to working on TV series with È arrivata la felicità, in which she was the lead actress of the second season in 2018. In 2016, she played Felicia Impastato in the movie by Gianfranco Albano. In 2018, she was one of the protagonists in the movie Il fulgore di Dony by Pupi Avati produced by Rai1 and she played a part in the comedy Amici come prima by Christian De Sica.

In 2019, she starred in the movie Croce e Delizia by Simone Godano and she played the lead role in Katja Colja’s feature debut Rosa, for which she was nominated for the David di Donatello and the Nastro d’Argento awards as Best Lead Actress. On top of those, she was also awarded the Flaiano prize. Thereafter, she was on tour with Il Penitente directed by Luca Barbareschi and Non farmi perdere tempo, written and directed by Massimo Andrei. 

In the same year, she made her debut as host of the late-night show Todo cambia on Rai3 channel. 

In 2020, she was the protagonist of the monologue Da Medea a Medea, directed by Fabrizio Arcuri at the Teatro Greco in Siracusa.

In 2021, she took part in the very famous TV series Le indagini di Lolita Lobosco, directed by Luca Miniero on Rai1 channel.

In 2022, she was one of protagonists of a new tv series Studio Battaglia, produced by Rai and directed by Simone Spada. For this role, she was awarded the special Nastro d’Argento for the great tv series, together with the other actresses and the screenwriter Lisa Nur Sultan.

She will soon return to cinema in Luca Lucini’s comedy Io e mio fratello, in the second season of the tv series Le indagini di Lolita Lobosco and in a new theatre project.
