Biography
RICHARD MADDEN is a Scottish film and television actor.
Madden is currently in production of Amazon Studios CITADEL, executive produced by Anthony and Joe Russo. Priyanka Chopra Jonas will also star in the science fiction drama television series.
Most recently on the big screen, Madden starred as ‘Ikaris’ opposite Gemma Chan and Angelina Jolie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film THE ETERNALS, directed by Academy Award-winner Chloé Zhao. The film was released in November 2021.
In December 2020, Madden and Brian Cox starred in the QCode sci-fi podcast series FROM NOW, which hit number two overall in the Apple Podcast charts. Amazon won the rights to adapt the podcast as a TV series, which Madden and Cox will executive produce.
In 2019, Madden was seen in the BAFTA-nominated film ROCKETMAN, the Elton John biopic, where he played ‘John Reid.’ He was also seen in Sam Mendes' Academy Award-nominated war film 1917, which was released that year.
Madden starred as the lead role of ‘David Budd’ in the BBC mini-series BODYGUARD for Netflix/BBC Films, for which he won the 2019 Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Drama). The series was also nominated for Best Television Series (Drama). Additionally, Madden received the 2019 National Television Award for Drama Performance for the role.
On television, Madden also starred in the lead role of ‘Cosimo de Medici’ alongside Dennis Hoffman in the Netflix series MEDICI: MASTERS OF FLORENCE, directed by Sergio Mimica Gezzan. He achieved critical acclaim in the Discovery Channel original mini-series KLONDIKE, and appeared in the BBC film LADY CHATTERLEY’S LOVER, based on the classic novel by D.H. Lawrence. He is perhaps best known for his compelling performance as ‘Robb Stark’ in the acclaimed HBO series GAME OF THRONES.
On film, Madden co-starred opposite Idris Elba in BASTILLE DAY, directed by James Watkins. He also starred as ‘Prince Charming’ opposite Lily James in Disney’s live-action adaption CINDERELLA, directed by Kenneth Branagh.
In 2016, Madden starred as ‘Romeo’ opposite Lily James in the West End stage production of ROMEO AND JULIET, directed by Kenneth Branagh. The stage production was later seen in cinemas.
