Biography
Actor, screenwriter and director, Sergio Castellitto has appeared in some of the most important European films such as: "The Family" by Ettore Scola, "Le Grand Bleu" by Luc Besson, "The star maker" by Giuseppe Tornatore, "The great Watermelon" by Francesca Archibugi, "Va Savoir!" by Jacques Rivette, "Catherine in the big City" by Paolo Virzì, "The missing star" by Gianni Amelio, "The Wedding Director", "My mother’s smile" by Marco Bellocchio, "Recipes of love" by Sandra Nettlebeck and "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" by Andrew Adamson.
Over the years he has also directed many films such as "Libero Burro" (1998), "Non Ti muovere" (Un Certain Regard in Cannes, 2004) based on Margaret Mazzantini's novel, "La Bellezza del Somaro" (2010), "Venuto al Mondo/Twice Born" (2012) based on Margaret Mazzantini's novel, "You can’t save yourself alone" (2015) based on Margaret Mazzantini's novel, "Fortunata" (2017) written by Margaret Mazzantini.
Castellitto has also worked extensively on television in films such as Giorgio Capitani's "Loose Dog" (1989/93), Alberto Sironi's "Il Grande Fausto" (Coppi) (1993), Antonio and Andrea Frazzi's "Il Priore di Barbiana" (Don Milani) (1997), "Padre Pio" by Carlo Carlei (1999) and "Ferrari" (2001) also directed by Carlo Carlei, produced by Angelo Rizzoli for Mediaset. "O'Professore" by Maurizio Zaccaro. Also directed by Maurizio Zaccaro "The Mayor fisherman", broadcast by RAI 1 in 2016. In January 2018, the TV movie "Rocco Chinnici" was broadcast on Rai 1.
Sergio Castellitto also lent his face to Giovanni Mari, the psychoanalyst of the cult series "In Treatment", which aired on Sky from April 2013 to March.
