At the end of 2008, Darko Basheski became CEO of the Macedonian Film Agency, where he is responsible for developing Macedonian cinematography, increasing film production, digitising cinemas and educating young audiences. He began his career as a photographer, then turned his attention to filmmaking. In 2008, he became the Macedonian representative on the board of management of EURIMAGES. With the ongoing digitisation of the cinema theatres, Baseski recognised the needs of young audiences, and with the support of Claudio Gubitosi, he collaborated with the Giffoni Experience to create Giffoni Macedonia, a regional film festival for youth, in 2013.
